Batts Morrison Wales & Lee is pleased to announce the expansion of our Tax Services team with the addition of two attorneys, Earl Coleman and Lane Newbold. Both Earl and Lane serve in the Tax Counsel position, based in BMWL’s Dallas office.
“Having Earl and Lane join our team is another major step in our commitment to provide world-class tax compliance and advisory services to nonprofit organizations across America,” said Mike Batts, BMWL’s president and managing partner. “And what’s especially cool about Earl and Lane is the passion they share with us for serving great organizations that make a real and lasting difference in people’s lives all over the world.”
Meet Our New Team Members
Earl Coleman – Originally from the Chicago area, Earl earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and his LL.M. in Taxation from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. With eight years of experience in mergers and acquisitions tax at a “Big 4” accounting firm, Earl offers deep technical expertise and a commitment to supporting organizations that make a real difference.
Lane Newbold – A North Texas native and graduate of Texas A&M University School of Law, Lane earned his J.D. with a concentration in federal tax. He brings over three years of legal experience and a passion for community impact, as demonstrated by his founding of a nonprofit that provides essential resources to underprivileged schoolchildren and their families.
Earl and Lane, both of whom were recently onboarded, complement our robust tax team led by Michele Wales, National Director of Tax Services, and Kaylyn Varnum, Assistant National Director of Tax Services. To underscore the significance of this addition to our team, Michele Wales shared her enthusiasm for the expertise the new positions of tax counsel bring by saying, “I’m very excited about the addition of Earl and Lane to our tax advisory team. They have already begun contributing unique and valuable insights to our tax advisory practice and will unquestionably enhance BMWL’s ability to provide the highest quality tax services to our clients.”
Echoing Michele’s sentiment, Kaylyn Varnum shared, “We’re delighted to have Earl and Lane join our team of talented professionals. As attorneys, Earl and Lane each bring distinct perspectives and experiences that will complement our team of CPAs in providing tax advisory services to our clients. Our firm and clients will benefit from their insight for years to come!”
